Weekly Workout Wrap Up + Pushing Past Plateaus

Weekly Workout Wrap Up + Pushing Past Plateaus

Hello!

How was everyone’s week?

Things are going pretty well for me but, whew, for poor Adam, things have definitely been better. Toronto has been taken over by the flu it seems, and that means 50% of the household is out of commission. Things have never been messier.

We were supposed to drive up to Ottawa this weekend to visit his family and new baby niece (p.s. her name is FRANKIE. So cute) who still resembles a jellybean sized human. She is pretty adorable and makes the strangest, yet endearing faces when she is about to poop.

Since Adam is so sickly, unfortunately Ottawa is off. On the flip side that means more time to work on B2S and see friends! Oh and queen size bed all to mahselffff. Adam has been confined to the guest room wearing an Asian surgical mask 😉

BTW, are you a Pinterest fanatic?! (Literally the smoothest topic transition ever).

I just started getting ‘good’ at Pinterest about a month ago. And by ‘good,’ I mean I’ve learnt how to search for things in the search bar, and use the re-pin button. Quite challenging.

grilledchs

Yes plzzz.

I’ve pretty much re-pinned ever single gourmet grilled cheese sandwich that’s on the inter-webs right now (like this one from Joy the Baker)and am trying to branch out. I think I have 15 boards, and 14 of them are ‘Food & Drink’ related. If you are interested in some hot gouda sandwiches, then check my account ooooot.

Things at the new gym are going fantaaastically. Honestly, i’ve never been more inspired or excited about fitness since I quit rugby. I’ve been trying out some new things and working on one-sided exercises to really strengthen my body and get rid of any deficiencies.

right-sided push up

This modified Archer Push Up is one of my new favorites! It is one of the progressions towards a one-handed push up, and I will be adding it to my workout routine more often. I was finding that regular push ups were beginning to get a bit repetitive/easy for me, and wanted to change it up a bit. Sometimes i’ll add a weight on my back, or put my feet up on a bench, but these new push ups are a game changer for me.

While i’m on the topic of workout progressions, I wanted to share Jess from Hello to Fit‘s article on How to Get Past a Workout Plateau.

She describes how it happens, why it happens, and most importantly, what you can do to fix it! If you’re feeling like you’re in a bit of a workout rut, then I’d suggest reading up on this article to grab some motivation and new ideas.

I haven’t been sick in a couple months so hopefully that means the cold is passing Waterloo by. I was actually in Toronto last week for the Restaurant Canada Show so I’m glad I didn’t catch it then!
And fitness wise, I’m still trying to get past the post-graduation/what is my life slump I’ve been in for the last year. Definitely going to be checking out your ‘workouts’ tab while I try to get back on track <3

Haha lets hope so! Oh girl next time you’re down definitely let me know!!

  2. It’s been a challenging and interesting couple of months for me re: workouts. After injuring myself in a Marathon, on been concentrating on strength and flexibility more… which has been fun, stopped me from getting too antsy, AND helped with some of my imbalances. Soon I may have a hope of doing those Archer Pushups you make look so easy!

Well, I wouldn’t say that I’m safe from sickness but I’m thankful that God has been gracious to allow me to stay well most of the winter. <3 Hmm.. My mom is one of my workout motivators. We have been working out together for the past couple months, and that has been an incredible blessing.

  7. My hubby started getting sick last weekend and I think he gave it to me–haven’t been feeling well the past couple of days. I tried to confine him as much as possible, but I still caught it. Ugh. Gourmet grilled cheese sounds AMAZING. Now I know what I want for dinner… 🙂 Have a great (and hopefully illness-free) weekend!

  9. I need to start doing those push-ups ASAP! Regular push-ups are pretty easy for me now, as well as BOSU pushups and even spiderman push-ups. I can do triangle push-ups pretty well now too, so 1-arm push-ups are up next!! Thanks for this tip, I’ll be working on them for sure!
Hope your man feels better soon!
