Something kind of funny happened at work the other day.
We had our annual town hall meeting where our CEO stands in front of 1,000+ people and tells us how we did during the year. At the end of the meeting, they open it up for the audience to ask her any questions about the marketplace, company, direction we’re headed, etc.
I almost always have some form of a question (big nerd) but 99% of the time, I never ask it. 1,000 people means 2,000 little eyes staring at me, and that’s just something i’m not super down with.
This year, something changed for me.
No, it wasn’t that I had suddenly gained a whole lot of confidence, or that I KNEW my question would blow everyone out of the water. It was actually a lot more simple than that.
It was the microphone.
The microphone that they were using was not your typical microphone… It was a cube shaped cushion, with a microphone in the centre. One which you literally throw at the person who is asking a question.
(That was me^^^)
I guess it’s called a Catch Box? Anyway, I saw that, and I had to catch it. I also knew if I asked a question, then I could throw it at someone else. This sounded like too much fun for me to miss out on, so with sweaty palms and my heart almost beating out of my chest, I stood up and asked my question.
Unfortunately, it turned out they had two microphones. I was hoping for some giant throw over half the audience, but instead some asshole from the row over lobbed it over to me. It was still hilarious though, and funny to speak into. And I survived my question!
*** Maybe this isn’t a smoothie recipe after all, but a lesson that you should always try to get out of your comfort zone, especially when throwable, cushy microphones are involved.
Anyway, lets get to this Chocolate Almond Smoothie Bowl recipe!
I LOVE my smoothie bowls so much, and have this particular one almost all the time. I’ll have it for dinner. I’ll have it as a pre-dinner when I’m SO HUNGRY that I need fuel just to make dinner. I’ll have it for breakfast, I’ll have it for lunch. I’ll have it for a snack. It works for every occasion.
If you want just a plain smoothie with no toppings, that’s cool too. It really depends on how hungry you are.
The 4 staples you need for this Chocolate Almond Smoothie Bowl are the following:
Almond milk (soy milk works too, but I prefer unsweetened, vanilla almond milk)
Chocolate protein powder (I always use Kaizen isolate whey)
Almond butter (Peanut butter works too)
1 large frozen banana (chopped!)
I like to add a bunch of toppings to mine as well – fresh berries, almond butter drizzle, a few chocolate chips. I also have added sliced almonds, quinoa puffs, and some toasted coconut. All of these you can buy at Bulk Barn!
I usually make this smoothie in my magic bullet, because i’m too lazy to pull out my entire food processor. Both work great, but the food processor I find makes a slightly thicker smoothie. If you DO make this in a magic bullet, put the bananas in LAST, so that they get completely blended (banana chunks literally make me want to puke).
This Chocolate Almond Smoothie Bowl is one of my favorites because all the ingredients are healthy, low in sugar, and there are 25 grams of protein in each bowl (thank you Kaizen!) Give it a try and let me know what you think 🙂
